San Lazaro and Martha II
The Association of San Lázaro "Love the Children" Home Martha II was established through the strength and determination of a loving mother, María del Carmen and her husband "Kike". They had a beautiful child that unfortunately was born with cerebral palsy.
There was no treatment centre in Tenerife for any children with this condition, so they had no choice but to send their child out of Spain for treatment. When their child passed away they decided to open a centre to house children who had been abandoned by their families.
Their contribution to this cause has made a real differnce. "Loly" (María del Carmen) has set up Martha II to offer treatment to approximately eighty local children and adults with motor neurone disabilities. This centre is always in need of funds to maintain and improve the quality of life for these unfortunate, but amazing, people.
Resort Properties was first involved with Martha II many years ago when the house was first purchased through the local government of La Laguna. Several sponsors were helping to generate ideas and funds for the project.
One of these sponsers was Anne Goulden who bought a boat to compete in the Atlantic rowing race between Tenerife and Barbados in the Caribbean. The boat was named Martha II and was crewed by two volunteers from the Adeje fire service, Pedro Ripol and Pancho Korff, who where the first Spanish competitors to take part in this event.
Resort Properties' management and staff sponsered each kilometre rowed to raise money for the initial purchase and refurbishment of the house Martha II. And so the journey continues.
