SOS Children's Villages
Established in 1949, SOS Children's Villages is a non-governmental organisation that focuses on children's rights in 132 countries around the world.
Its work is to respect, promote and stand up for the rights of all children, but particularly those who lack parental care and those whose families live in difficult circumstances.
It has also established a number of centres giving specialist support to children with physical and mental disabilities.
SOS Children's Villages recognises children's fundamental need for a supportive and protective family environment. As well as providing family-based, long-term care for children who can no longer grow up with their biological families, the organisation is also concerned with ensuring these children receive their basic rights, including education and training. It therefore has kindergartens, day care centres, schools and vocational training centres, most outside Europe.
Through nurture and education, the children are encouraged to actively take part in the decision making in their own lives and learn to love again following what have often been traumatic experiences.
An ongoing task for Children's SOS is to make the public aware of the struggles faced by these children and to promote their wellbeing.
Of course, all these efforts require constant funding. At a charity auction in Dubai earlier this year, Resort Properties donated two luxury prizes on behalf of SOS Children's Villages:
- Week 21 of every year in a Vacation Ownership two bedroom apartment for life in Malama Beach Club, Protaras, Southern Cyprus.
- Two weeks accommodation in a luxurious two bedroomed apartment in the exclusive Hollywood Mirage Club, Tenerife. This prize includes a day out on one of Resort Properties' Sunseeker yachts.
The week in Cyprus was considered one of the very best prizes on offer. In total, the auction raised a staggering £30,000.
Resort Properties is proud to have contributed to such a worthy cause and intends to continue to help SOS Children's Villages keep up their excellent work in the future.
