Weeshuis Sri Lanka
Established in the aftermath of the 2004 Tsunami, The Somawathi Home provides a loving and trustworthy environment for 150 children. Its mission is to help the children grow up to be healthy and to flourish as responsible and educated members of the community.
There is a large community here but they retain a family feel by providing dedicated staff and care mothers for the children. The children are also taught about their roots and culture with an emphasis on Buddism and respect for other people and religions.
But it's not just the needy children at the Weeshuis home who get support. Children from neighbouring villages can take part in the educational programs.
The Montessori pre-school and nursery on the premises is available for resident children as well as those from the village. Non resident children have the opportunity to participate in lessons, eat there and receive any school books or equipment they may need.
Life for these orphaned children is difficult enough without their parents so their basic needs are taken care of. The children have their own guardians who are given money to spend on important things like clothing and shoes. The main aim is to give these children a decent chance in life.

Herewith we confirm the receipt of your generous donation of €23.200,- transferred to our bank account on January 5 2005.
We are extremely happy with this fantastic fund meant for the Somawathi Holland House of Hope in Sri Lanka. With your donation we were in the opportunity to renovate one of the existing buildings into a Montessori Pre School on the premises.
Thanks to you we can offer free Montessori education to 65 infants from the Home and the children from the region !! We hope you will be in the opportunity to visit our project once or have a look at the Weehuis website to see how much the children enjoy their classes.
