Charity Auction a Huge Success

We are delighted to report that the charity pub quiz and auction appeal held on 26th February in aid of the Sparkes Home in Sri Lanka was a great success. The event, organised by the Falcons Group of Schools, raised an impressive £6,500 for the children's home and according to Matthew Wilson and Martine Silvester of the Falcons Group, a fun time was had by all.

The Sparkes Home cares for 40 Sri Lankan girls who are either victims of the 2004 tsunami, have been affected by the civil war or who come from families who are too poor to look after them. The idea behind the fundraiser was to raise enough money for Matthew and Martine to be able to make a personal visit to the children's home to carry out essential maintenance work, as well as providing staff there with tools to continue the upkeep of the home in the future.

Happily, enough money has been raised through the auction evening and Matthew and Martine are jetting out to Sri Lanka on 25th March to see their charitable efforts through to the last stage. Before they set off, they plan to visit two school assemblies in the UK to give a presentation about life in the orphanage in Sri Lanka. The children will be allowed a non-uniform day when they each contribute £1 to the charity.
