Cash for Kenya
On the 3rd of June 2009 Resort Properties held a charity fundraising day on behalf of Mombasa's Marianna Glorious Academy. Its purpose was to raise enough cash to build an accommodation block for 60 orphans.
The event was spearheaded by Esther Cushway, Jo Cuthill, Bev Clover and Kelly Lowe who between them came up with a number of innovative ideas to raise some cash.
Throughout the day a charity shop was open at the Hollywood Mirage Club in Los Cristianos, Tenerife.
The shop was stocked full of goodies donated by Resort Properties' employees and there were some fabulous designer clothes, shoes and bags along with various other desirable items all up for grabs at bargain prices.
It goes without saying that the shop was full of eager bargain hunters throughout the day and achieved a grand total of €2,000. This amount was added to the total raised by the Charity Auction which was held that evening.
This highly anticipated event did not disappoint either. Many employees' friends and family were there, cash in hand, waiting to give to the charity and bag some goodies in the process.
The evening started with a fashion show hosted by Josephine Cuthill, Resort Properties' Training Manager. Then the fun began in earnest as brave male members of the management and sales force donned designer gowns, shoes and hats for an amazing catwalk performance. This show had the audience in stitches and sold a lot of clothes in the process.
Then the main auction began with Resort Properties' Managing Director, Mark Cushway, as the auctioneer. With flair and a witty repartee he pushed the audience to part with a lot of hard earned cash. His ultimate aim, to ensure enough cash was raised to enable the building of the new accommodation block at the Marianna Glorious Academy. Many of the items in the auction were donated by local businesses that were happy to contribute along with Resort Properties' employees.
The target for the building work was €16,000 and the total money raised on the day was over €11,000, but this amount is just the start and the team are committed to raising even more money to provide not just accommodation for the orphans but also materials for the school including a network of computers, desks, text books and sports equipment.
The construction work at the orphanage is now well under way and is due to be completed by the end of the year.
